One of my great aunts was a famous weaver. I never met her, but grew up hearing about her accomplishments and was instilled with a fascination with craft. I learned to spin yarn. At first I used acid dyes to dye my yarn. The dyes created garish primary colors. My esthetic is based on old, simple, crumbling stuff: weathered brick walls with ancient signs showing through, moss covered rocks, rusted metal, worn leather. When I discovered natural dyes I began to see glimpses of the the objects l loved. The colors are subtle and work together and usually last longer than chemical colors.
This blog is about color and about natural dyes, combined – not mutually exclusive.
